1. What is a Commission?

An art commission is any form of art that is created for someone else, on their behalf.

2. How much will an Art Commission cost?

There are a few factors to take into account:

  • type of media: oil or acrylic
  • the dimension of the canvas
  • type of canvas: regular frame or gallery frame
  • if it is a portrait, how many people in the painting
  • each extra person will be $0.25/square inch (acrylic) or $0.50/square inch (oil)
  • the preferred shipping method cost, refer to Shipping and Policies
  • 50% of the payment will be expected upfront, the remaining 50% upon completion

3. The Approximate Formulas for Cost are as follows:

  • Oil on Gallery Frame – $2.00 cdn/square inch
  • Oil on Regular Frame – $1.75 cdn/square inch
  • Acrylic on Gallery Frame – $1.50 cdn/square inch
  • Acrylic on Regular Frame – $1.00 cdn/square inch

4. What is Required by the client?

  • A form of contact like phone, Skype or FaceTime, to confirm details and updates on the progress
  • The photo to be painted and any photos to use as reference for colour and details (if required).
  • Instructions as to what is wanted
  • 50% of the payment will be expected upfront, the remaining 50% upon completion

5. What do you get from me?

After receiving the instructions, photo, extra references and down payment:

  • Contact to ensure correct media, canvas size and any other details required
  • Purchase the canvas and any other media required
  • Copy the photo to print out in greyscale and colour
  • Grid the greyscale and coloured pictures by hand
  • Sketch the picture onto the canvas
  • Contact to ensure drawing approval, make changes if necessary
  • Spray the pencil sketch with a sealant
  • Then the painting begin, this will happen in several layers with each layer taking time to dry
  • Media and size of canvas will vary the length of time to complete
  • Depending on media, it will be sprayed with Vamar varnish to protect it
  • Then the painting and a receipt will be shipped to you, as per your instructions
